Located in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin, Germany, Messe Berlin is the fifth largest exhibition hall in Germany, with a total indoor exhibition area of approximately 160,000 square meters, including 26 connected exhibition halls and a 10,000-square-meter atrium. Between 1993 and 1999, the Berlin Exhibition Centre (exhibition grounds) was expanded to the south by 80,000 square meters (designer Oswald Mathias Ungers). In contrast to the new rectilinear halls 1 to 6, the south gate, which was built at the end of 2002, is semicircular with a large glass façade of 3,500 square meters. By 2006, various service buildings and a modern exhibition and press service building will be built here. The first exhibition hall in Berlin was built in 1914 and was located opposite the current International Congress Center. The important trade fairs held by the Berlin International Exhibition Center every year include the International Green Week (IGWB) in Berlin, the International Radio Fair (IFA) in Berlin, the International Tourism Fair in Berlin (ITB Berlin) and many other major international trade fairs.
